Current Work
Work created while and undergraduate at Bowing Green State University, 2019.
My fascination with clay has guided me toward making functional vessels. The need for wares is something that will always exist. Typically, society uses cheap manufactured goods to satisfy this need, and these vessels are only valued for being functional. Introducing people to handmade objects and showing the sentiment in said objects is exceptionally fulfilling. Giving others access to handmade wares to experience them not just on a functional level, but conceptual as well.
Pottery’s obvious connection with food and drink opens the opportunity to create specific vessels. I’ve been focusing on growlers because of the specific purpose associated with them, as well as for its curvilinear form. The familiar contour of a bottle is accentuated by the controlled stripes that follow the surface. I maintain this intense work habit in order to pursue a long lineage of skilled potters.
